Question Beard Cover

Don't think this subject has been 'covered'(pun) very well. So I'd like some honest opinions, especially from those of you with darker shadows of growth.

That's my problem. These light little concealers don't work when done as directed. And after trying all the ideas I've seen and looking okay in a mirror, it's ruined on a camera with the flash. It really urks me!!!

So again I'm looking into covering the shadow up so even on a camera it don't show. I don't want cakey, don't want to crack my face off and have it fall on the floor when I smile either.

I read some articles yesterday and some are pretty dramatic and obviously not for the girl on the go who likes active lifestyle... I would be spending most of the night touching stuff up!

A couple things I was looking into are here below:
http://www.thefantasygirl.com/cosmetics/pinkgoo.shtml
I'm thinking this might be the way to go as it's a good color to work with, and all I need to do is top it off.

http://www.alconeco.com/in_the_know/...ess_foundation
Another idea closer to what I was using up until the cover dried out.

http://www.theglamorouswoman.com/bcover.html
Basic stuff that I used before but seemed cake-like on application.

But aside from that what have you had the most success with? Ideas, suggestions, experience?

I'm pretty open to any new techniques, I really want to work this out so even if I take a picture the beard is gone

Rose Re: Beard Cover

Shave close twice , cheap red lipstick over the beard area ,spread thinly , normal foundation over the top, MAC Sheer Cover or Studio Finish if you want to spend the money , for myself Max Factor , two thin coats over the beard area topped off with Max factor powder .
Result no visible beard in photographs ( the red neutralises the slight grey of the stubble ) and can go out 6 or 7 hours with apparently flawless makeup.

In male mode I need to shave twice a day to look presentable in the office so I've been playing with this problem nearly 40 years and the above works for me .
Dermablend is far too cakey and bleeds through after 2-3 hours.
The only other alternative is save the bucks and have IPL or Intense Light treatment to permanently remove the beard hair. Costly but effective.

I am sure you will get lots of other suggestions,
Lol,

I have worked with the 'pink goo'.
Excellent coverage, since, as it states, it counteracts the blue/black
of beard undergrowth.
It is rather thick and I am still in the process of determining
just exactly how much of it to apply.
But, I really don't think that you can get better coverage than
this stuff. Put your foundation base over it and finish with some powder and:
Viola! Girl skin!

OK, a pet subject of mine, the best by far is MAC Full Coverage, it's only available from stand alone MAC stores, not MAC outlets. This stuff is the trannys little secret. It's light when applied and covers extremely well.

I hate the look of heavy makeup and this stuff works for me.

As for the alternative IPL is generally accepted to be a waste of money, it can't destroy male facial hair effectively, Lightsheer or Soprano diode lasers do however work. I can vouch for the latter.

I'm using Maybeline Pure Makeup foundation, it comes in small tubes of various shades to match your skin colour. I use darker colour in the summer since I tan to a darker colour and Natural Ivory 3 in the winter (6+ months a year in Canada ).

Like Melissa said, shave as close as possible.

Then apply, twice for pictures, otherwise, once should be enough. Follow that with a blush that works with your skin colour.

I gave up on beard cover.

--------------------------

Ultimately, you may have to experiment until you find something that works for you, as skin types are different for everyone and what works for me may not work for you.

Hi, I use Ben Nye Blue Neutralizer and Cinema Secrets Foundation and Blush. Ben Nye Shadows and Liner. Very good products, strong color so you don't need much. I went to a local makeup artist/store. They were very understanding and helpful. Gave me the same lesson they would give any GG. I go back to get my brows trimmed and shaped. To help keep my brows in place I use a little Clubman Moustache wax, it is strong enough to keep the brows in a nice arch that I like. I also started to thin and shape a little a time. If anybody noticed no one has every said anything to me.

This answer might not be a make up answer but it might work for you. Don't use the flash on your camera. Try using good lighting without the need of the flash.

Ad far as the make up thing goes, I don't really know how to hide the dark beards, I never really had a one.

I'm always looking for the lightest and best coverage. I have pale white skin and though some of my beard is gray, what's left is dark black. This is my current technique:

Gillette 5 blade Fusion razor, first down, then up. I also blow out my cheeks and pull the skin around my face to make sure I get the closest shave possible.

Toner, then face cream moisturizer.

My all time favorite, (I've tried orange-red lipstick & clown white base) is the RMCA beard cover (the small $9.00 version). The pink beard cover is better for black and white photography, the darker orange for color.

I use a foundation brush to really get the beard cover down into the pores. I find a good 8X (or better) lighted makeup mirror really helps here. I only put it where the beard is and blend outwards.

I set it with translucent powder. Theatrical powder is cheaper and better than drug store brands.

I've used dermablend and M.A.C. complete cover in the past, but it feels thick and waxy to me. I've switched to "Make Up Forever" that I got from Sephora. I went in and had them apply several foundations and this liquid "Mat Velvet + Matifying Foundation" almost covered by itself. Supposedly you don't need powder, but I use...

The "Make Up Forever" High Definition Powder, to finish it off.

To see what it looks like with a 3 light setup and a flash. Look at my post Tracy's New Look.

Twice a day, wow just think of all the money spent on shaving over the years. I know they did not have IPL 40 years ago and even with Rachael's great tip about MAC cover, make up can still look heavy.

I say this to any one, even a weekend dresser is to go for IPL, how about not taking that hoilday this year or getting a new car and using the money on some thing that will change your life.

My only tip on pictures you do not like is Photoshop them to death.

URK URK URK ..... IRK!

Lots of good advice ladies!
The best thing to do is ...... get rid of the beard!!

Now I know that lots have tried laser etc. and it is seriously expensive, painfull, and sometimes does not do the complete job.

I too was shaving twice a day if I was going out ( in Male mode ) so I understand the problem.

I decided to try this stuff http://www.shavenomore.com/?AID=1485042&PID=1659453 just before christmas last year. I used 5 bottles of it so far, on face, chest and arms. Whilst it definitely does not work as fast as they claim, it does work. My face has now about 1/3 the growth it had last year. The arms are less furry as well. I just ordered another 4 bottles. It is a good deal cheaper than the laser or electrolisis, and is totaly painless, and seems safe so far.

Its just a greenish fluid and you need to rub it in after you shave. So far so good !!

Nothing ventured ,,,, nothing gained!

Tristen,
Have that problem!!! Dermablend works well, as does MAC Full Coverage and Cover Creme. It does take 2 layers, with a reddish/coral type color in between (Some like lipstick, I prefer cream Blush) The key is to SET THE LAYER WITH POWDER!!! Every time!
If you apply the cover lightly, then set it, then the optical color neutralizer (lipstick or blush) then set it, and do the final layer and set it, it pretty much wipes out the shadow, even in pictures.
As for easing the color, Andine has found a product that might help. I use Aveeno, 'positively smooth shave gel, body wash and lotion. I shave twice, every morning, use 'Clean and Clear Foaming fqcial Wash to clean my skin, then apply The shave minimizing lotion to my bearded area.
It took 3 weeks to see a noticeable difference, but now? I hae about 1/3 the darkness plus I no longer tear up the collars of my shirts!!!(Beard stubble really is tough on shirts!)
Just another way of accomplishing the end!

Well .... thanks Tracy .... Andrea certainly does not like the fellow in Ultra Hair away at all.

I have found that it has made a difference, but its much slower than they say it is. I have no idea if it is permanent or not. It is a pretty cheap way of getting some results (for me anyway).

I havent been spammed by this clown either, but I took care not to ask for any info, or buletins or the like. So far so good. .

Good link Andine, a little pricey for my situation but worth looking into in the future. Thank you

Thanks again to everyone for your advice and tips. I should clarify I'm looking to beat this out, both in RL and on camera. I noticed the flash on the digi shows transparent right through my make up but on a regular flash it's much better(stay away from digi cams eh). Most of my personal pictures I take with no flash so no much of a problem there. I do see a little shadow in the mirror and don't like it, hence probably why a digital camera finds the flaws as well.

Unfortunately I'm a hairy b***ard by nature. Born Italian and very thick dark hairs. Probably moreso than a lot of you, which is a curse in itself. Derma blend tube make up didn't cover enough without getting gobby and rubbed off more than it stayed on. I did use their beard cover for a while(think I got it from sud fem Denise) and it wasn't too bad but ended up drying up and became unusable.

Concealer alone just doesn't cover the big black shadow enough without looking clown like and cracking when I smile. I haven't photoshopped my face in a very long time, just a personal preferrence there.

Lisa good stuff there, that's pretty much how I go about it. Press, rub and set, then remove excess - repeat. Still noticable on the upper lip no matter what I try with my present assortment. Laser and the more expensive solutions aren't an option really, not unless I hit the lottery sometime in the near future. Someday though

To start I'll probably try the MAC and pink glo stuff to see how that goes until I can afford to experiment with some of these other options.

Probably will have a picture thread about it later
