The back was no problem at all. In fact, as the tech went down my sides, I had to work to not jerk when it tickled. The bikini line was much more sensitive, but tolerable. As for shave or not shave. The techs shaved my back for me and asked that I shave as closely as possible the exact area of the bikini are that I wanted done. My tech (I got the same girl every time) fished a bit,but never pushed. Eventually (about halfway though) I came out to her making it very clear this was not something to be discussed outside the treatment spa. I may have hurt her feeling a bit with that, but she said "of course" and seemed to understand. One plus of this, was that I didn't bother to wear drab underwear when I went in from then on. Eventually, I will have everything below my eyebrows done. There are long-term follow ups needed. But I note that it has been 18 months since I finished my back and it has not yet needed a follow-up. |

Re: Laser hair removalI went for what was to be my final appointment...yeah right. After 6 treatments I still have a beard. They have offered to provide me with additional appointments at no charge but I'm wondering why bother... if this hasn't worked yet will a few more treatments make a difference?!?!
I barely have enough time to sleep these days and these appointments have taken a bite out of my schedule not to mention my purse. I am still committed to eradicating my facial hair, just don't have a "plan B" yet. Any "plan B" suggestions welcome. |

If it hasn't worked, something isn't right. My seventh a few weeks ago. ![]() Me blown up from a picture taken earlier today, before my eighth session (this Tuesday), no foundation, just a little powder, eyeliner and mascara. I'm lazy! ![]() Actually I just didn't want to get foundation all over my clean clothes before I packed them for Sparkle. ![]() I still have a few dark patches, but I'm confident these will be gone before July. I had a very dark and dense beard when I began this treatment, and reiterate, I'm not using concealer or foundation, just a dusting of MAC Studio Fix powder. I'm not done, but aren't far from it. It can take up to twelve sessions to remove all of the dark hair, after that it's on to electrolysis if you need it. This picture was chosen to be as honest as you can get, I hadn't shaved for hours, even then it was just a Braun Lady shave electric. I'm actually really glad I posted this, I can see in the second photo what I feel in my face, this is hard to describe since close up you don't see the aggregate effect. Looks good to me Rachel!
But this has taken years and cost How much? In my case about 60% of my facial hair is white ... I don't think this would be cost effective! I have been trying a hormonaly based hair removal gel from Transformations in UK .. It seems to be having a slow effect on the growth rate ... Total eradication seems far away! http://www.transformation.co.uk/en/s..._list&start=20 About 1/2 way down page two .. Its the super strength Blue stuff. I guess even at the price .. its still much cheaper than the laser thing! (And not painfull at all ) .. ![]() I love being a girl! ...... OFTEN!! Regards Andine |

I had very little light coloured hair, so Laser was my best choice and works out much cheaper than electrolysis. I was also careful to choose the best system available. Anyway, the first six sessions cost £550 and should have yielded better results, but there were a few problems since some of the technicians hadn't dealt with a male beard before. My next session is tomorrow and I'd expect it to be the second of a further three, these are £85 each. Full clearance should be well under £1000 and be cost effective with what I save on shaving products etc. The year lapse between treatments was mainly down to work commitments and traveling, in fact this has caused me to change tomorrows appointment twice since making it! |

I know it's not permanent, but epilation has made my face quite smooth and really weakened the hairs that remain. The first few sessions are a bit painful, though. The overall cost is pretty cheap at one epilator per year at about $70 US. You do look like you're getting younger. Send me the secret. Ha ha. |

Stick with the free sessions after the costly ones are completed. Laser hair eradication takes time and several cycles depending on the person. I just completed my 6th session the other week, and believe me, I walked in there with what was a full beard at the roots, albeit a little thinned out over time. My 'package' if you would call it that, accounted for 6 full-price treatments, several weeks apart (for me it ended up being almost two months apart, long enough to see what hairs WOULD grow back) and then when they were 6-8 weeks mature and visible as a shadow again, BANG! and the cycle would repeat. Now, the package that I signed on for then provides 6 months worth of FREE 'touch-up' treatments after that.. of which I've already scheduled a consistent 4-6 week cycle for now into the months of the future. By the fourth treatment the tech was clear with me - the deep and darkness of my beard would very much require ALL the free time I can amass - and that may mean 30 minute sessions one time, and 10 minutes the next, depending on how much hair is there (left). Top that off with half-off sessions for I believe what is a year after or more (I believe my contract says 'ever after' but who knows what they'll keep up). I have a another TG friend who goes to the same shop, and she goes back periodically for little touchups here and there, but she is walking, talking proof to me that Laser hair removal DOES indeed work, at least for her. Lastly, in parallel, I am indeed in electrolysis for gray removal, as I do have a full face of white hairs coming in as well. I, and my electrologist were stunned when I let my face grow out for a few days so she could start her process.. HOLY HAIRS batman.. I'm only in my very early 30's and I essentially have a full beard of gray going too. Soo... 30-45 minutes at a time, every three weeks for pokie-yankie as well. Someday I'll be hair free, but I can see, it won't me in the most immediate future. |

The optimal Laser session spacing for full male facial hair removal is actually 12 weeks apart. This is due the there being different growth cycles for the various types of hair that comprise a "Beard", for instance the mustache hair isn't the same as the hair on the chin. Spaced at 12 weeks it's possible to achieve full clearance in about six to eight sessions assuming no white hair and ideal skin type. The choice of Laser is also important, if I recall this correctly this is for a Lightsheer Diode Laser at suitable power to penetrate deeply enough for male facial hair, it's sure deep rooted! I did try to work at this spacing myself, but had problems with work commitments and a few technician changes along the way. The appointment I had today has been moved twice within a week to fit in with travel. Interestingly my new technician wants me back in six weeks after today, I haven't explained the above to her yet and am going to attend, purely because it suits my arrangements for the Sparkle weekend this year. |

So after reading all of these posts I have a few questions. What about chest hair? I have a lot of that if I let it grow in. and there are a few patches on by back that I can't get. Sure I can put a bra on better than most women but there these two spots that I just can't reach. I have been considering the laser hair removal for a long while but did not know what to expect, until reading this thread.

The chest and back are the most common laser treatments sought by men, very effective too. The face is far more uncommon. The beauty of laser is that you just need to have the area to be treated shaved closely before treatment, I have had a technician take a disposable razor to shave areas I'd missed. This is so that the energy of the laser gets to the hair below the skin and not waste the power cremating the hair above the skin. For me the back isn't an issue as I have no appreciable hair there, the chest is easily dealt with via epilation so not worth the expense to me. Just back from another laser session this afternoon, my face hurts.......... |

So I have read that if you have light colored hair, such as blonde, like myself, you will find laser treatment less effective because it harder for the laser to target the hair. Any truth this cause if that's the case I'll just get my back waxed and continue to do it the old fashioned way.

That is correct, but the right laser can still be effective on even blonde hair if you have fair skin. The only way to find out is to consult a practitioner and get a test patch done, this is usually free of charge. |

I got my first laser session done on the 8th of May. The lady said most of the time it can take anywhere from 6-16 treatments, depending on how much hair you have. She also said that because of young I am, I might still have developing hair and my treatments might end up never ending till my mid thirties, which if its a treatment every two months, that's over 60 treatments. However, I hit puberty early and my family has never had super dense facial hair so I'm expecting about 20 sessions. She also said you will not see any sort of wonderful results until the last 2 or 3 sessions because of the way hair grows. So to those still in treatment, wondering why the sessions don't seem to do anything but hurt you, keep at it and the results will be better than you could have hoped. ^^
Oh and this is one of the heat laser devices, not a radiation one. I don't know the specifics on the radiation ones... >< -Kinnichi- |

Firstly, trust your tech, she is correct! The hair growth on a mature male face works over a twelve week cycle, differing areas have differing growth cycles. The upper lip and the chin for instance are different hair types, there is a mix on the cheeks and jaw. I'd still say go for this if you can afford it, as soon as you develop any white or grey hair the cost will go up. |
